The calming mechanism we need

Maybe it's just me, but there's something very reassuring about this interview in which Obama gets the giggles from a fly buzzing around him (the fly wins). It happened in the face of a turbulent week in our economy and financial market implosion.

It echoes the demeanor of a guy who's going to calm us and reassure us through tough times, not stress us out. He laughed about it and put the reporter at ease...

...unlike McCain, who probably would have lost his cool and blamed Obama for the flies.

Thank you for your blog, and thank you for this post. I've seen it all along, but during this last debate I think it became the most obvious. Barack has the character our country desperately needs for it's next leader. He is calm yet can be direct; he is positive yet firm when he needs to be; he can joke and joke about himself which tells me that he is humble; he is extraordinarily diplomatic; he is inspiring; he is innovative; and most importantly, he can look his opponent in the eye and give him praise or call him out when he is wrong. This is something McCain cannot do, as seen in the last debates, but is the sign of a person with moral character.

It's amazing what a simple debate can reveal...I actually think McCain came off, with all those angry and bizarre facial expressions, of looking like a madman. Maybe that's my jaded view, but what that imagery has the ability to conjure up in viewers can go a long way...in the case of helping Obama.
